Catering Services.
Catering is another very important part of your wedding day and can take a large amount of planning. Do you want a simple buffet spread or are you going to be arranging a banquet? Lots to think about - the following should help.
Food for thought
There are many traditions surrounding the wedding ‘breakfast:’ for example in Roman times the marriage contract was not legally binding until the Bride and Groom shared bread together!
You want your day to be memorable for all the right reasons, so it’s worth considering the reception meal as an integral part of the whole celebration instead of the first opportunity to sit down that you’ve had all day!
Think about the people you are inviting, will there be children to cater for? Do you want them seated with the main party or at a specially decorated table of their own? Are you or any of your guests vegetarian? Does anyone have a nut allergy? Consider the season too, as guests at a winter wedding would no doubt welcome a hot meal over a cold buffet.
Will you have a sit-down meal or a more relaxed hot and cold buffet? It all depends on your preferences, the guest list - and of course your budget. Check whether table decorations, napkins etc are part of the deal and make your requirements regarding colour scheme clear to avoid disappointment.
Whether you choose a firm of caterers or the catering facilities of your reception venue, they will offer you advice on the practicalities of your preferences and take all the hard work out of what can be a thoroughly exhausting day, allowing you and your family to enjoy the celebrations along with your guests.
Return to top Choosing the perfect menu
Whether your venue or a specialised catering company provides the meal, the menu for the reception needs serious consideration.
Whether you decide to choose a formal sit-down five course meal, or a simple buffet provided by family and friends, the meal needs to complement the feel of the day. For example, a five-course meal would be in keeping with a no-expense spared wedding, whereas a buffet style ‘help yourself’ meal would not quite fit in with the theme of the day.
You also need to consider any special dietary needs of your guests, such as vegetarians or people with nut allergies. You want all your guests to enjoy your special day.
