Things to consider when buying your cake.
1. The purpose of your cake.
Sometimes the cake is used for desert after the main speeches and reception meal. Other times the cake is cut into lots of small pieces so the guests can take the a piece of the cake home. One good tradition is to keep the top tier of the cake for your first aniversary or for when your first child is born. If this is the purpose of your cake then you dont want to go for a cake with fresh cream.
2. The colour scheme of your wedding.
Usually your wedding will have some sort of colour theme. Usually dominated by the colour scheme of the wedding dress and the bridesmaids dresses. Obviously the traditional white cake is still the more popular choice but coloured cake decorations can do wonders to tie in the whole theme of the day. Also coloured icing is becoming more popular as alternative weddings become more and more the norm.
3. Which type of wedding cake?
White icing with a very fruity centre is the traditional cake though as suggested above you are in no way limited to this. Other options consist of chocolate, orange cake, sponge cake - in fact - just about any cake can be turned into a beautifull wedding cake in the hands of the right cake maker.
4. Wedding cake decorations.
The good old traditional cake will have flowers made from icing or silk with a bride and groom ornamental top. Again you are not limited to this at all so do have a good browse through books or the internet to see what the options are. Below we have provided a brief guide to the differant types of cake decorations that seem to be most popular today.
