Wedding Attire.

A guide to choosing the men’s outfits ……..

Most wedding attire is available locally for hire and the groom should make his choice first, thus allowing his party to take their cue from him. The colour of suits and accessories should match the overall colour scheme chosen for the day

Menswear for the man attending a wedding – the options are fairly simple

He may wear uniform if serving in the Forces of his country; he may wear formal dress if he so chooses or he may opt for a lounge suit. If the groom decides to wear formal dress, then all the male officials should be similarly attired, including the best man, the father of the bride and the ushers. When the groom has selected the style of formal dress, and there are many different ones, he should inform all his male officials of the style, and the name and address of the hirer who will keep a record of the numbers and individual names for fittings. Any officials travelling any great distance to the ceremony can be informed of the style of the dress and will then be able to obtain fittings in their own locale.

Morning Attire

For the most formal of weddings the men wear morning coat, trousers, waistcoat, white shirt and satin tie, optionally accompanied by top hat and gloves. Morning suits are available in a wide range of colour and styles. Accessories such as the cummerbund, handkerchief and buttonhole can be matched with the overall colour scheme chosen for the day.

Highland Wear

Becoming more popular, and not only with Scots, Highland wear makes a real statement and it does look fantastic if you’ve got the legs for it! Stores which specialise in Highland dress will guide your choice and assist you in choosing the comlete outfit.

Evening Wear / Lounge Suit

Black or white, single or double breasted, dinner jackets, tailcoats, and tuxedos; explore the local men’s outfitters and choose the right look for you.

Lounge suits are normally worn for the less formal wedding and are a popular choice, particularly for men unaccustomed to wearing formal attire. The shirt should be white and the tie should be pale grey, with shoes and socks matching the colour of the suit. All adult male members of the wedding party should complement each other. Smart Lounge suits are also suitable for register office weddings.
